I received a letter today.

A handwritten letter, in fact.

Did you? A secret admirer, perhaps?

Oh, no. In fact this letter was all about you, Captain.

Very intriguing.

[ sorry, koby. he’s going to be a pain about this just for the fun secret of it. ]

About me?

Is it about the spill in the library? I cleaned it up, it was barely Lincoln's fault, she doesn't know her own strength!

You made a mess in the library and didn't invite me?

All that aside - a man name Harry reached out to me.

It wasn't a very FUN mess. I'm never bringing my coffee in to study again.

Oh! Harry Goodsir? He's lovely, isn't he? I'm so glad you've met now.

[longitudinal]

Is that why the bath towels smelled like coffee? Well, and like you, of course.

But he wrote me asking if he could seek your affections. He writes letters like the old men on my ships back home. It was very endearing.

Yes, it is. I got it all over myself, trying to save my notes.

Oh, did he? He wrote me a whole letter of apology for "overstepping", which was very similarly endearing.
I like him. So does Tim. Do you?

Call me next time. I'll help clean it up.

He seems nice, yes. Reminds me of home. I told him he doesn't have to ask me permission to do what he wants with you. That he should ask you instead.

He had nothing but good things to say about both of you, and I warned him. If he hurts either of you willfully, then he'll see how sailors from my home behave.

And then we'll both smell like breakfast. Is that your plan?

He's old-fashioned that way. Still, I like having your blessing. I like you knowing who I'm with. You have such a nice, vivid imagination.

You're sweet. I don't think he's the type to do such things. Especially to Tim. They've gotten very close, very fast.
It worries me, a bit.

Having you for breakfast? Yes, that was always the plan.

And I like to know you're with people that care about you. Or that you're feeling good. But you said he's close to Tim?

QUENTIN. That's not what I MEANT. [now he's flustered in public!!]

Well, that's mutual.
Quite close, yes. Tim's been glowing since they started spending time together.

It's silly, I know, but. Tim falls so hard, so quickly, and if bad things happen, he gets hurt so deeply. I don't think Harry would hurt him on PURPOSE, but still.

Well it's what I meant. :)

But you're right. We all have a leaning toward falling hard and falling quickly. I think Harry means well and cares deeply. Just like Hawk for Tim - it took time, but things seem better.

I'll even admit that Hawk is slightly less terrible than I imagined him to be.

We do, for better or worse. Better, for me, obviously, but Tim's had a couple experiences with "worse".

I'm going to screencap that as soon as I remember how.
He's trying, at least. I can see that. And he loves Tim, which is the most important part.

We've all had our dealings with the "worst". I hope there are fewer here for all of us.

And you would screencap this and use it against me, Captain? I'm appalled.
He does love Tim. It's plain as day. I'll give him that.

We have. [there's an almost tangible pressure drop, gently rattling the windows, because -- well. koby's thinking about the regent, and that's what happens when he does that. it passes after a moment, replaced with his usual soft warmth.]

I would never! I'd put it in a memory book. The day Quentin said Hawk wasn't as terrible as he could be.
And so do we. That's the most important part, right? We can figure out anything else.
