now that everyone's favorite twink marine has awakened his haki, here's a handy-dandy opt-in/out! succinctly, "haki" is the ability to harness one's own energy/willpower/spiritual strength to do weird anime shit. at this point koby has "awakened" his haki, which eventually leads to said godtier abilities, but will primarily manifest itself in salt as:
extrasensory perception: the ability to sense people's presences (slightly warped by the house being the house, but if someone's approaching him, he'll feel it before he hears or sees them). this will also allow koby to locate people/check in on them without having to contact them any other way.
empathy/emotion transfer: if koby's close by/the emotions are strong enough, he'll be able to feel them very intensely.
aura-reading: people will appear in koby's mind as blobs of color/light, which is cute and fun~ he'll have a better time recognizing people sight-unseen if he's already familiar with their aura. this will also tell him their current status (health, stamina, whether they're injured/dying/dead) and emotional state.
basically: everything on the kenbunshoku haki wiki page, minus the precognitive abilities (for now).
also: horny hot haki (because oda said i could).

IF OPT-IN: John canonically is hard to get an energy reading off because he's "consumed the energy of nine planets, seven billion humans, and the sun" kind of powerful; his magical signature is so intense that aura readers and psychometrists in his canon find it hard to read even stuff he's touched or tampered with because he drowns shit out - this will be especially loud on House and Danny whose meat forms he has messed around with a lot. He's a little nerfed just because his battery is in a different multiverse, but still a bit like looking at the sun. His necromancy is nose searingly lemon-flavoured and presumably his aura is fuckin yellow. You're welcome to interpret all this however is fun, I have all his power details in this journal. He won't notice being mind-read or anything.

IF OPT-IN: Generally: so much fire. His aura is a cold smoldering fire, a black flame with a green core, and he goes from too-hot to too-cold at a drop of a hat to reflect the volatile nature of his emotions and how he reacts to people. Aemond doesn't regulate very well and is still learning to do so in SB; if Koby connects to him, he'll likely feel like a raw and open nerve exposed to an electric current. Koby will also notice that Aemond's aura seems to be missing a psychic limb; this will be his connection with Vhagar, which is currently amputated in SB. (grandmama pls come home 😭)

IF OPT-IN: bro wishes his aura was pink but it's probably black and murky and twisted and weird. 😔 kobes can def know about hao's hunter-y strength and overall human but with a video game buff vibes. seeing through hao's bullshit is an absolute yes, but i would love for him to be occasionally baffled by hao's aura just absolutely radiating insane unhinged vibes like murder murder murder when he's just like, absolutely chilling smiling and playing a video game and overall acting normal as fuck. dw, it's just the voices in his head. 💕

IF OPT-IN: the deathliest of death vibes - not only is harrow's brand of magic basically entirely powered by and harnessed off of 'death energy', but she's also the result of the mass murder of 200 children in order to guarantee her conception, which tends to leave a bit of a grim residue on a person. other things of note--she almost ascended to near-god status recently but fucked the transition, has implanted false memories into her own head, is maybe very crazy but it's hard to say. happy to delve into more details if it ever comes up but those are probably the broad strokes!!

IF OPT-IN: witch! nick technically has the potential to be very very powerful and it's all sort of brewing in there but he taps into very little of it. it's all very much nature-driven magic, plants and the earth and all that sort of thing. emotionally, he's a very frenetic person, deeply chaotic and it shows. he's usually feeling a lot of things all at once and doesn't often focus on any one thing for too long. he's also got a very addictive personality and is very rarely sober! ditto on harrow, if more relevant is needed in the moment am happy to ramble for days but that should do for now!

IF OPT-IN: aura-wise, alina's resembles pure, searing white light in a general sense — depending on her mood, emotions, and their intensity, her aura may flicker like the colors of sunlight, ranging from buttery gold to deep blue at the edges, to blazing red. alina's counterpart, the darkling, has the scent of a cold winter night — alina's power likely smells the exact opposite. think cutting into fresh, ripe peaches on a warm summer day. overall, alina's power feels contradictory; there's an inherent comfort to sensing it, but the overwhelming enormity of it — and the volatile nature of it, like someone tried to keep lightning in a glass bottle — makes it feel otherworldly, almost terrifyingly so.
important to note that alina's spiritually connected to a shadow summoner in her own world, who has extensively used abomination magic, and has even dabbled in abomination magic here herself — it will look like a spool of black around her aura. one thread leads to an entity that cannot be seen (unless someone apps the darkling, then feel free to have koby notice it leads to him) and the other leads to paul atreides.
other passengers attached to her that koby might be able to sense is a sea whip (sea ice dragon) and morozova's white stag. both feel like ancient guardians carried with alina, that give off two very different vibes — the anger of a predatory animal for the sea whip, and a sense of calm wisdom from the stag itself.

IF OPT-IN: koby will definitely get a sense of just how much emotion hawk actually restrains at any given time - the effort of which can be seen in the colors of his aura which are usually any variation of muted grey blues - navy. the more desaturated the color, the more he's masking/hiding/repressing. when he's actually happy and especially when he's around tim, the colors will become more vibrant and enriched. hawk def won't stand a chance against blocking anything fully if koby chooses to read into it, but koby might feel the resistance and reluctance at opening up in general!!

IF OPT-IN: he's a witch, power level HIGH. ping ping danger high. he works heavily with dark magic and demons in particular, conjuring them and doing favors in exchange for more power. aura is deep reds/maybe some bits of grey/silver and this remains consistent regardless of mood, which is usually controlled - he's hard to read physically and emotionally. koby won't have to worry about being overwhelmed by anything but his magic when he's around him. he'll leave a metallic taste in someone's mouth. his energy doesn't feel good at all, and can be uncomfortable to be around for long periods of time. feel free to hit me with any qs but that's about it wink wonk

opt-in/out of koby's powers?: IN; that said, astarion is able to sense psychic interference thanks to his mindflayer tadpole and would react poorly to anything further than extrasensory perception/aura-reading without discussion beforehand.
IF OPT-IN: lmao we're literally threading this right now BUT koby will probably be able to sense the tadpole in astarion's head; it grants him mild telepathic abilities. beyond that, koby can likely pick up on the fact that astarion is not a complete amateur when it comes to using magic, but it's not his primary source of strength. (aura: ballet pink.)

Everything. The unending optimism, the courage his crew and friends give him, the drive to become king of the pirates. He might be able to sense something haki related but it's super-duper unclear as to what it even could be. (Rude, Haoshoku, being so far in the future). Aura colour is red tinged with gold (vest and hat), but occasionally cloudy white???

IF OPT-IN: what would koby be able to sense about your character: Colours definitely green and gold. His strength isn't as much as say Aemond's since he shirked a lot of training, and there's zero magical abilities. Sort of. Targaryens are weird, they don't burn as easy as other people. Emotionwise, on the surface level just a dude trying his best to be king AND have a good time, normally on his third or forth drink of the day. Digging deeper, just a profound sense of uselessness (being king means sitting and doing nothing, according to his mother), anger at the black banner side of the family that seethes, normally followed by a pang of loss. Like seriously go nuts, I'm cool with that.

opt-in/out of koby's powers?: opt in, but saber went through a lot of training to be be a sleeper agent & had to deal with newbies figuring out their powers and psychics trolling around the house. that paired w his swiss cheese brain and he's probably got a solid barrier/block happening.
IF OPT-IN: his power is necrosis: anything living thing he touches he can drain the life from and necrotize the flesh left behind. it's all gross! he absorbs whatever they have and he doesn't have to kill them but definitely does anyway. if he doesn't their limbs rot and cause infection regardless, and either way nobody should be on the battlefield with him :( forgot to mention he CAN transfer the life energy to someone that isn't him!! but he never does lol. danger/power level high. aura can be played around with: maybe it's blinding ultraviolet one day and like a black hole the next, zero empathetic return. sorry koby 😭
